Episode #17 - Caregiver Syndrome

Caregiver Stress Syndrome

"What is Caregiver Stress Syndrome?

Caregiver stress syndrome is a condition characterized by physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. It typically results from a person neglecting their own physical and emotional health because they are focused on caring for an ill, injured or disabled loved one."1

In doing my research, there is no cure for Alzheimer's. I am caring for my mother who has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and my aunt who has dementia. It is not easy to deal with the exhaustion. Here are a few symptoms you may experiences:

1 - Feeling overwhelmed

2 - Feeling tired often

3 - Getting too much sleep or not enough

4 - Possible weight gain or loss

5 - Easily irrigated or angry

6 - Losing interest in activities

7 - Feeling sad or depressed

8 - Physically ill with headaches, stomach issues or pain

9 - Overindulging in alcohol, food and drugs

The above symptoms are just some of the things you may experience. Please seek help is you are experiencing any of these symptoms as a caregiver. You are not alone. If interest in joining my support group for caregivers please email me at [email protected].
